Persian Saffron Tea: A Golden Tradition of Flavor and Elegance

Persian Saffron Tea: A Golden Tradition of Flavor and Elegance

In Persian culture, saffron is much more than a spice. Known as Zafaran (زعفران) in Farsi, saffron has been treasured in Iran for centuries as a symbol of hospitality, celebration, warmth, and generosity. From fragrant rice dishes and traditional desserts to beautifully brewed teas, saffron holds a special place in Persian homes and gatherings.

At 1001 Nights Tea Company, we celebrate this beautiful tradition by bringing you premium Persian Negin-cut saffron, carefully selected for its vibrant crimson color, rich aroma, and exceptional quality.

What Makes Negin-Cut Saffron Special?

Not all saffron is created equal.

Negin saffron is one of the most prized grades of Persian saffron, recognized for its long, thick, deep-red threads and minimal yellow or orange portions.

Our Negin-cut saffron offers:

- Beautiful Crimson Threads: Carefully selected red stigmas with an elegant appearance.

- Rich Aroma: A distinctive fragrance with delicate floral, earthy, and honey-like notes.

- Golden Color: When steeped, the threads gradually release a beautiful golden-yellow hue.

- Exceptional Flavor: A complex, gently earthy taste with subtle sweetness and the characteristic flavor of authentic saffron.

Because of its appearance and quality, Negin saffron is particularly appreciated for premium teas, Persian cooking, and special occasions.

Saffron in Persian Tea Culture

In Iran, offering tea is a meaningful gesture of welcome and friendship. Whether welcoming guests, gathering with family, or enjoying a quiet afternoon, tea is an important part of everyday Persian life.

Saffron adds an extra touch of luxury to this beloved tradition.

Persian saffron tea, often called Damnoosh-e Zafaran (دمنوش زعفران), is enjoyed for its beautiful golden color, delicate aroma, and comforting warmth.

It may be served on its own or combined with rose petals, cardamom, cinnamon, or a touch of honey.

How to Make Persian Saffron Tea

Ingredients

- 5–8 threads of premium Negin saffron

- 1 cup (8 oz) hot water

- Honey or rock candy (Nabat), optional

- A few dried rose petals or a cardamom pod, optional

Instructions

1. Gently crush the saffron threads to help release their color and aroma.

2. Place the saffron in a teapot or heat-resistant cup.

3. Add hot water, preferably around 190–200°F.

4. Cover and allow the saffron to steep for 10–15 minutes.

5. Watch as the water slowly transforms into a beautiful golden color.

6. Add honey, Persian rock candy, or rose petals if desired.

Persian Serving Tip: In traditional Persian homes, saffron is sometimes brewed separately in a small amount of hot water to create a concentrated infusion. A little of this golden liquid can then be added to black tea for extra fragrance and color.
